what tool are you using?
I have a 2008 bmw e60 that has the cas3+ with ISTAP. This is my first time programming a key for a bmw with this update. The owner has no key, so I originally went out thinking this would be an easy OBD procedure. I am able to progress and pull the key data, the vehicle had 4 keys programmed into it. However, when I go to program the new key in, it tells me that there need to be 64 attempts before the key will program. Every time I attempt this, it seems to go through about 10 or 11 attempts, before telling me it has failed to program. From my preliminary research, I see I can program this with Tango by removing the Cas and DME to pull the ISN and write the keys in. I have also seen that the car needs 13+ volts if trying to program OBD for it to be successful. But others say that it could damage the CAS flash by attempting through OBD. What is recommended?

So I need to attempt to program 64 times before it may succeed. Oh my....this is my first encounter with this. It says it needs to be 'started' 64 times. I will try and take a picture, I am going to return to the vehicle tomorrow. I am just not sure if I should spend the time trying to do 64 attempts...maybe it would be faster to pull eeprom and program that way.
I am using Autel IM608
While I was looking for help information on a problem I had, I found this video. I absolutely agree with sir...

I also use the IM608, i just insert the key until it until I hear the relay in the key slot module lock in it
so when it is writing the key, I should be removing and reinserting the key?
correct. often works within the first 2 dozen tries. if it doesn't work suspect other issues. also im608 can downgrade ISTAP, program your key, then upgrade istap

thank you, I will try that. I was just leaving the key in the ignition, I did not realize I had to do that for the programming. Will return to the car tomorrow and see if I am successful. Thank you! ^^
I remember, it does say it fails to write dealer key, so would this still work? Or is there something else wrong if it is failing to write the dealer key?
do you have a spare key that is unlocked you can try? i haven't run into issue making dealer key ever
I have tried with two different keys. I have a third, but I don't imagine it would make a difference. I am able to 'pre-process' the key, but when it goes to write the key to the Cas, it tells me it fails. It will start writing the key, and the dash will light several times with the key symbol. Then the autel will tell me it failed to write the key to Cas.
U need engine isn
why would he need engine isn to write a new key to already sync cas and dme?
Have you considered dumping cas flash and eeprom?
