ive not had this on smart , had similar on hyundai when the machine i had at the time cut the tip angle too steep and wafer got jammed behind the cut stopping extraction , i used to hand file the angle on these to make it less harsh , the machines i have now dont suffer the same and cut a better key.

if all else fails torch the car , it would be viewed as a mercy killing

pay attention to drill the pin good, after that you press the release safe up and there will be a spring under it,do not use strong pressure pulling the release safe as there is danger to crack,it will take some time as it is your first time but the next will be very quick,i repair a lot of these after steal attempts

Getting some information from this group & trial & error ive now been able to cut a Silca YM23 key for a smart car 2001

I have taken the ignition lock apart to find the wafers stamped as follows.
    65 67 65 66 65 66 68

    So forget the first digit of which you now get 5 7 5 6 5 6 8

    The YM23 file in Codemaster 5.56 uses numbers 1-4 so subtract 4 from each number mentioned so 5 7 5 6 5 6 8 becomes 1 3 1 2 1 2 4

The ignition lock has 8 wafer spaces BUT only 7 wafers are used.

I cut the key on my Miracle A5 & the type of key "YM 23" is attached

Many of you know that YM23 profile isnt shown in Instacode so here is my file to share for you.

    https://drive.google.com/file/d/1GWX...ew?usp=sharing

    Hope this helps.

Simply paste this file into the Smart Car folder within Automobiles.
Then open Codemaster to see the file is now shown as YM23 OLD TYPE

i would revisit your decode to see if decode is wrong which is likely as not working.

decode in same direction as picked , very gently push along line till you touch the wafer then gently push past the spring to the stop position to get your reading .

be sure your machine is cutting the generic number 5 cut in position 8

instacode has alot of missing codes so isnt always much help on these

What i do when i pull the core:

Before i slide out the shims,
Insert a new blank key, and measure the height they stick out first.

If for some reason, a shim gets launched, or more then one falls out. You will still have pretty good idea, what goes where.
And it could give you the code, without pulling the shims. If measured correct.

You could insert a lishi, lift the shim so it alignes with the core. And write down this code.

as stated , it was the initial decode . always worth decoding a few times to be certain of decode.

If you are close to Burnley I have a gearlever you can have with two keys (no electronics unless I can find some).

    No matching tailgate lock though.
