Only ever had to pick one ignition before on a Golf but steering lock was off, steering lock is on this Jetta so wary about breaking the pick.

I’ll flush it again and if no joy a bit of brake cleaner as you suggested. After that lock out and strip if no luck

the steering lock being on makes no difference to picking the ignition wafers , the only difference is the ignition will follow a 1 up 1 down format unlike the door lock which is 2 up 2 down format , you feel when it is picked as get a slight turn on tool , at this point turn steering wheel and pick will turn the lock on easily , i cant see how you could break the pick ? ive done many vag ignitions with steering lock on without issue , it makes no difference at all to picking , you just turn wheel when picked to switch on just as you do with the key .

you can also use a direct reader to read ignition too , but all pick and although a less comfortable position it still picks without issue and cant break the pick unless your being heavy handed trying to force it to turn without moving steering wheel

this would have saved you burning blades and saved having to make a second visit and alot of wasted time , you will only risk breaking tool if too heavy handed and not releasing steering lock by turning the wheel .

makes no difference if on to picking , just needs releasing by turning the wheel just as you would do with the key.
you will have taken a steering lock off with a key before , key turns a fraction but wont turn any further until you turn steering wheel , its no different with the pick

    Update on this

Flushed the lock with some brake cleaner then a shed load of WD40 with the straw so right in. Picked with single lifter and pushed past stopping point. Decoded then picked with twin lifter, same code, cut blade and bam sorted. 2 cuts were 4 should have been 3.

Picked ignition when there, awkward to see but got there. Same decode.

Thanks for the steer Rapid appreciated 👍🏻
