VP44 Diesel pump speed sensor

Hello everybody,
I am working on an Audi 2.5 TDI V6 with a VP44 pump reporting a 01376 pump speed sensor error. This is the only error code. Also, I am able to find 5V at two of the four pins where the sensor meets the controller. Does this mean that the sensor may truly be the issue and that the controller is more than likely ok? When the transistor fails, does it generate different codes? Is it possible to scope the speed sensor signal directly as the car is cranking? Many thanks everyone. OOJay
