Default MB ML320 W163 2001 AKL Help Please

Hi all, this will be my first attempt to program keys on Mercedes and I'm hoping to get some direction.

I have a dealer fob with the blade cut but not programmed. I also have spare PCF7935 transponder if needed. The car has no working keys.

For tools I have FVDI 2014 and XPROG 5.55. I read on forum that with AAM you can read EEPROM by OBD2 using FVDI but I believe this year has DAS in separate module and must read chip on bench.

I plan to read the DAS dump and then use FVDI special tool "DAS 2b" to program key from dump.

Can someone please let me know if my understanding is correct and what other steps I need to do with FVDI?

I'm attaching screenshots below for reference. Also, if I use dealer key do I need to prepare transponder with Tag Tool or is that only for PCF?

Thanks in advance and sorry if these are noon questions, it's my first MB.

Use all activity module-AAM, not DAS.

Thanks for reply. Does that mean I can read EEPROM by OBD2 using FVDI or do I still need to read some chip on bench?

you can do it with FVDI, but first you will need to know where transponders is stored, in earler are in AAM, later is in EAM, both working with FVDI, but first need to prepare transponder with FVDI tag tool

If the car is a 2001, immo data is in the FBM, which is plugged into the EAM. I've never tried to do it via OBD2. I just remove the module from the EAM, read the HC05, make a key and reinstall everything.

Thank you, that's what I was thinking I had to do but then I started reading people saying it can be done exclusively by OBD2 so I got confused.

I believe the FBM is the little module shown in picture below. I'm under the impression it's under the steering column, is that correct? Or is it in engine bay in place of AAM?

Also, when reading the HC05 do you read in-circuit or do you remove chip? I'm using XPROG clone so might be safer to remove chip?

I'm also wondering if the dealer key (not programmed yet) is reprogrammable. Would you suggest I first try with a PCF7935 transponder? If I'm programming the dealer key do I need to do any pre-steps with Tag Tool?

    Thanks in advance

Yup, that's it and it can be safely read with your Xprog. Remove the chip, solder it to the HC05 adapter, read and reinstall on the board. Never had to anything special with the transponder, just took one from the bin and wrote whatever key I needed.

I wasn't able to find my exact MASK in XPROG 5.5.5 so I picked the closest match and was able to get a read of 256 bytes without errors.
I then prepped a new transponder with FVDI Key Tag (Production Tool) but it didn't ask me for the dump.
So then I went to Mercedes Special Functions -> DAS2b(w163), loaded EEPROM read and tried to learn transponder but it won't let me.

    What am I missing? Thanks

Do you have to write back a modified dump after programming a keyslot?

When I load it into FVDI tool shown in my pics it fails to program the prepared transponder.

I guess I can't do it with my crappy tools.

    Thanks for your help
