Yes the remote and transponder are separate.
Use vcds to check remote. If you get NOT OK the remote side has failed.
Probably the crystal.
Put new board from China key in or board from Audi A4 (which is the same)

If you are going to add a new transponder don't use Audi A4. It uses a different algorithm you can kill the car.
