Default New Abrites update for JLR. Now 2018+ is supported by OBD2

    As title says.
Abrites key (ta57) must be used.

Looking forward to hear sucess or failure stories for 2018+

Also, have not tried the standard key programming for JLR from Abrites. See they say its all by OBD but i have my doubts.

Guess it depends on what dealer charge.
Where I am, dealer also charge for new KVM even if customer still have one key, and they charge around €800

2018+ KVM with SPC mcu OTP, so as i see and local dealer said: For add key, need change new KVM with 2 new keys.

There are maybe another solution: Buy new and virgin MCU then program lika as new KVM and program keys.

Yeah well... than you must have Pathfinder with capability of programming new kvm to the car. And if you never done this before it will be nightmare. Not the best way of learning on 100k car

What i mean is: No OBD programming to add key. And the way can do is very risky and hard...

JLR OBD has been dodgie in the past on most tools. Abrites no exception by modified the P-flash.

So great news from Abrites but will hold off for now -

Definitely. And, definitely. Don't fancy these by OBD, but if you need to use their key, I suppose they've developed a workaround as opposed to writing a new key to the KVM.

Let's see who's next. They'll all be offering it next week.

    G Series BMW required too.

Hm do you think they found a way to clone it?

Looking at this, it looks like the original key won't work if you add the Abrites key, so, if that's right, a spare key job will require two new Abrites keys at €200.

On some model it might still be like this. Earlier this was always the case.
There was an update, not so long ago.
Which give you the option to read the old key. And in some cases, it can still be used.
    Just adding 1 extra key.
    Which is a saver.
Since these keys which are allowed to use by this tool, are quite expensive.
Which lowers the margin, to earn some money doing these vehicles.

Yes, spending £400 on keys to give the customer one new key is pretty dire, but what are JLR asking? It'd need to be in the four figures mark. There's likely to be some margin, yet.

    I had a customer quoted £984 by a dealer for a new key on a 2017 XE.

I've emailed Abrites asking some questions. If I get an answer, I'll update.
