Default has my car got an MOT

Just bought a car that was going to be scrapped because the head gasket went, I bought the car and repaired it. I need to find out if it has an existing MOT certificate.

I know on the GOV website i can find out if i put the reg of the car and the long reference number on the front of the log book , the latter i dont have as the log book has been sent of by the previous owner who cant remember where the MOT certificate is and when it runs out.

Cant ask the garage for a replacement as dont know who did the mot.

Anyone know of a way to find out?

I paid for a vehicle check hoping it might say on there but it didnt, at least i found out the car is genuine and is not an insurance claim or anything.

    Regards

Not hundred percent on this one but i think if any m.o.t station logs on with the reg number and last six digits of the chassis number the expiry date will come up with the vehicle details, some of the more experienced testers may know this for sure just off the top of their heads, i've got about 5 to do tommorrow so will check when i logon to see if the expiry details come up on the screen.

Thanks, been there, if you see in my post i dont have the log book at the mo as it has been sent off.

Maybe i'll have to wait for log book to come back but that could be weeks so cant drive the car until then.

All you need to do is go to your local MOT station, give them your registration number, they will be able to tell you all details of MOT and even print them out on standard paper for you. This is unless the car was subject to a claim, and a total loss in which case you cannot see old MOT/mileage details for it any longer.

    Not true mate.
In this case you are stuck, unless you know which garage tested it origionally.
The MOT computer will let the origional garage print off a duplicate with just the registration number. Any other garage can print a duplicate but they require the number from the V5 which you don't have.
Best and simplest option is to have another MOT carried out.
