DDEC 3/4 Reprogram?

I've been searching the forum and can't find the solution to my problem. There seem to be others with a similar issue dispersed throughout some other threads, but no fixes. Using DDCT to change the calibration on my ECM,now I've got a nonresponsive ECM.
I'm getting a J1708 connection, but there's "no DDEC found on BUS".
Any help is much appreciatted.

Your ECM failed or J1708 short circuit to ground

What caused it to fail? How could downloading a calibration cause it to short to ground? Could it be a software problem?
