Lightbulb [total newbie] Opel zafira 2004 y20 dth intro questions about egr

    Hey there!
Just for the introduction I don't really know what exactly do I really want/need here.
I have a 2004 zafira with y20 dth 2.0 Its EGR clogs up ~ every 500km and the car goes into the infamous safety mode(from 0 to 100 in just 5 minutes ) then I have to clean it and the 500km loop starts over. I thought about somehow disabling the egr but I couldn't find any resource on how to do it for my model online.
I have never done any chipping on cars but I'm pretty tech-saavy and I like to hack around with stuff that I come across.

    - Is there some good "general introduction" resource I can learn the basics from?

    - Is it possible to turn off the egr for my model?
if yes, how to do it? What hardware/software/knowledge do I need to pull it off?
I have a copy of OP-com along with the diagnostic cable - is this somehow helpful somehow?
    - Will the disabled EGR influence the emissions of the car? It needs to go through a emmision check this year (and I think it's not gonna make it) Is there something else I can do with the emmision levels of the car?

I sincerely thank to anyone who is gonna respond and provide me with some answers.

    Have a great one guys!

Hi rafal, thanks for the reply. I'm not from Poland, I am from Slovakia. I would like to do it myself - not because of money but I'd like to learn a bit or two about the tech behind it. Even if it takes longer/is more expensive overall I just like the satsifaction of doing it myself.
