    Default Stupid noob question-dm500c pickup FTA channels without a smartcard??

    Hi, i just purchased a dm500c to play with thinking i might be able to at least get the free analog channels on cable (Telstra has both analog and digital tv). My TV picks up the analog channels ok, just wanted to know can I do this on the DM500c without the need for a smartcard?

    I have the original enigma image and used same settings as below from a local forum. I cant pickup transponders, i assume this is because i need a subscription or smartcard to even get the channels i get on my CATV tv.

    This is what I found:

    QAM = 64 (off the Set Top Box startup)
    Symbol Rate = 6956.5 (Found the hard way)
    Transponder Frequencies = 586 - 650 at 8Mhz jumps. (Off the NIT / Set Top Box)

    Below is the cables.xml I use with my Dreambox. This is what I received off the NIT in Wellington. I had to "blindscan" from 4000-7000 KSyms by creating a custom cables.xml on frequency 626Mhz and steping through each symbol one by one which took about 3 hours counting up from 4000 to 7000... just wished I had counted backwards from 7000 instead of starting at 4000 as it would have come up much faster. I have had reports that Christchurch uses the same Symbol Rate, just has its channels on different PIDs.

    <cables>
    <cable name="TCL" satfeed="true" flags="9">
    <transponder frequency="586000" symbol_rate="6956500" fec_inner="0" modulation="3"/>
    <transponder frequency="594000" symbol_rate="6956500" fec_inner="0" modulation="3"/>
    <transponder frequency="602000" symbol_rate="6956500" fec_inner="0" modulation="3"/>
    <transponder frequency="610000" symbol_rate="6956500" fec_inner="0" modulation="3"/>
    <transponder frequency="618000" symbol_rate="6956500" fec_inner="0" modulation="3"/>
    <transponder frequency="626000" symbol_rate="6956500" fec_inner="0" modulation="3"/>
    <transponder frequency="634000" symbol_rate="6956500" fec_inner="0" modulation="3"/>
    <transponder frequency="642000" symbol_rate="6956500" fec_inner="0" modulation="3"/>
    <transponder frequency="650000" symbol_rate="6956500" fec_inner="0" modulation="3"/>
    </cable>
    </cables>

    ok I have this picking up all the digital cable channels with a black screen and no FTA channels. I guess there are none as all digital channels would be encrypted anyway, doh! is there any plugin that would let me see at least the analog scrambled channels or the unencrypt uhf/vhf FTA ones that my tv picks up? or does this box not do analog tuning?

    You should be getting FTA with a digital signal,the encrypted channels require you to activate the emu.As for analogue i aint got a clue,no doubt someone else can shed some light.
    Is your cable feed live???as i posted you should at least get FTA.

    can i completly flash using an ethernet cable? i think i have screwed my dreambox (clone) up, flashed with dk .1 but now all i get is the logo and it resets its self

    DreamFlash Version 2.3 (supported)
    DreamFlash Mountpoint=/var/mnt/usb (NOT MOUNTED!)
    DreamFlash Image=false
    DreamFlash Selected=Flashimage
    Telnet Disconnected
    FTP Disconnected

    ok tried to update img with dk.1 followed the rules as much as i can understand, hence wonder if i screwed it, after flashing all i get is the dk logo and the box resets its self, i dont have a null modem cable, i used ethernet using software DCC and as it was cheap i expect this to be a clone, im sure theres quite a few things i did wrong, but can i put them right or is this suppose to happen?

    thanks jimmy

    you have no choice now mate.

    you need a null modem cable ( ?3 ) and software caled dreamup from here in the downloads.

    you will need to flash an original image now, not a backup, hence null modem cable and dreamup.

    most times if you flash an image over a diffent type of image, that will happen ( you get to the splash screen and it will reboot, and so on ), sometimes you can reflash twice and it will work, but i find the null modem way is best .

    always make sure you have a back up of your var/scce and var/keys , also your cables.xml file, and if you have bouquetts, save your userbouquettes too.

    as far as getting access to the downloads, just wait maybe 15 - 20 mins till the server has backed up

    i am thinking you will be back soon then,

    once you get the null modem cable, go to the cable forum and read through the stickies ( the ones at the top in red ), There is one for "flashing a dreambox using a null modem cable and dreamup "

    If i'm right you can reflash without a null cable?

    drop the IMG into the temp file via (FTP), then telnet to the box, logon, then use a command line?

    you cant, the db wont let you get into it, thats why it disconnects, ftp is not accessable unless you know a software that will get past that
