Default Starview HD fine on cable but most channels scrambled on sat

    Hi,

Have been using the above with cable for a while and amazing, lots of HD and program guide etc but just had a S*y dish fitted to get cheaper phone/broadband. Have just upgraded software to GROOVERIDER_HD_COMBO_+_0128.UAD & HD300e_Boot_v0021.UBT to use with the dish. Although im picking up around 600 channels when scanning (using hotbird satelite) most of the channels are scrammbled and im getting way less than I was getting on cable. Is this correct or am I doing something wrong. Im in the South West of England.

Any advice would be appreciated as I think I might have made an expensive mistake.

    Cheers

you wont get much on hotbird nowdays, aim it at thor 1.0 west, stick the latest softcam on box and you will pick a lot up, but you need at least 80cm dish, and a motor will give you more.

Thanks for that I'll have a go tomorrow, I prosumed the std s?y dish would have been up to the job being as it picks up their channels but maybe I'll have to upgrade the dish, on hotbird I'm picking up the channels and even seeing what's on in the program guide but it's just they're scrammbled, if this is because the grooverider softwares out of date have you any idea what version of softcams I should look out for.

    Thanks again bjorn

Thanks for that ive now done a full scan on Thor and all still scrambled, I picked up way more channels doing a network scan but nearly all there and named but still scrambled. Ive looked for the thread above in the sat section but coulnt find the one you mention any chance you could post me a link to it as I cant find the softcam program elsewhere. Sorry if im a bit of a rookie but is the listing at the bottom of your email a list of satelites or is that the softcam key that I need to use?

    Sorry for being so thick.

    Thanks

Unless your dish is physically pointing at 1 west or 13e you wont get anything. Is your dish poointing at sky uk by any chance.

Hi thanks for the responses, yeah its a std s*y dish so I expect it will be pointing to S*y UK. It does pick up plenty of channels on both Thor and Hotbird but they are encrypted. Is this defo because of the dish/direction or could it be a software issue, Im happy that the combo software went on correctly but the box didnt seem to do anything when I opened the softcam key in the same way. If ive got to go for a different dish in place of the std S~y one then would my phone/broadband (which is all part of my new S*y box) still work if my dish isnt pointing at their sat). Im kicking my self getting rid of cable, things were so much simpler and had a fair bit of HD.

The dish is pointing at 28.2e (sly uk) its physically impossible for you to get anything on thor or hotbird as the dish cant move to them sats its fixed! all you are doing is scanning thinking you are on thor or hotbird but you are on 28.e all the time
putting a motorised dish up wont effect your bb or phone.

Thanks for that, a motorised dish it will have to be, Is there a particular one you've had sucess with or would any 80 cm one be ok? Just to clarify if I do buy one and have fitted could I expect to get the same or similar channels I was getting using the box with v media?

    Cheers bjorn

    Hi mate

you can grab a 1M Motorised dish from ebay for 115 quid... but then u will need to have it installed... now if you know someone who can do it for you or if u can do it you self then it will work out much cheaper in the long run

With a motorised dish u will get shit loada channels... however alot of em will be scrambled... This includes Sky UK and the foreign channels as well

but.... if you go down the c/s route which u can google it and get info on how to get more out of your dish then you will get no scrambling issues if you get my drift..

anyway as far as you getting V media channels yes it was great and you thought it was heaven I imagine..

You go down the C/S route and u will be in heaven with more channels then VM can possible offer you.

this will include SKY UK as well.

but am in NO position to talk about it here or give any advice regarding it.

Please do NOT send any PM's and start asking me questions on how to do it, As i will not respond / reply.

    regards
    Unadkat

    P.S:

No point getting a Motor setup for FREE channels because is crap and a waste of money!!!! you will not get any decent channels if you planning for a FTA (free to air)

C/S is not easy to setup if you have no computer knowledge / Networking.

Thanks for the info, I've just been looking through the fine print on my new s@k contract and it would appear that I'm stuck with it for 12 months so can't just go back to cable.

Thanks again, I'd better get googling to see what's involved the set up above.

    Cheers bjorn
