I don't think it would be so easy, there's a big difference between 2000 and 2005. Add to that the different platforms and protocols, you'd have a real mess.

Maybe the better way is to use all the hardware and wiring from the Liberty in the WJ, SKIM module, peripherals and all. Just my thought, not knowing for sure. I do know that when we change VINs in PCMs, the box numbers have been the same. Have changed PCM from California to Federal, to find out the LDP/EVAP systems were different. Have not been able to reprogram a Chrysler PCM with any different calibration that it came with, only update.

It may be possible, the only way to know is to try it, I doubt anyone could tell you it would surely work.

    Thanks for the fast reply

The Liberty and GC share a lot of the same systems and protocols.

For instance you can take the EVIC from the GC and use it in the Liberty to get fuel milage etc..

Fortunately the 2005 Liberty still used the PCI protocol where I think that they went to CAN-BUS in 2006.

I have access to the SKIM module and key set etc in the Liberty.

I would like to have the GC VIN show up when the PCM is scanned however.

Maybe use the Liberty SKIM and have a reset done on it then program in the GC VIN?

Not 100% sure, but there should be a way.

IIRC the SKIM communicates with the PCM via PCI bus so in theory maybe the GC SKIM would work. Hard to say without with trying it I guess.

It's worth a try, only way to know for sure. Hopefully anything you change can be recovered if needed. I'll be curious how it works out.

I'll be sure to do a full backup of the PCM before starting.

Now I'm lost, how can you do a full backup? If there's special hardware or software, that's what I've been wanting to learn.

You can read everything from the PCM using a BDM device.

Normally the VIN # is stored is the serial EEPROM. Not sure if the PCM also stores the 4 digit SKIM code or just the SKIM module.

I am getting a J2534 pass thru device and using the J2534 toolbox from Drew Tech you can change VIN in PCM and also reset SKIM

I would think it's also possible to use winols to change VIN in PCM's serial EEPROM that way.

The PCM stores the 'secret code' from the Skim in it so without a Skim reset you car won't start. Changing vin alone won't suffix.

    Thank you!

You don't happen to have the address location in the serial eeprom do you?

I can't remember if it was this forum or another where the posted the correct hex values for the decimal numbers.

I'd imagine I would be able to search for it that way.

I know the address of it in the SKIM module but that doesn't help me since I will be leaving that the same.

Were you ever able to find the address location in the PCM?

I realize that this a rather old thread, but just wanted to thank you all for your great information, Finally, I was able to get rid of the a SKIM module, by using a SNAP ON PRO III device and the Drew Toolbox J2534 software running under Windows 10, I kept my PCM, as the issue was with the SKIM module itself, so I just disconected the battery, then the SKIM module, then I did a SKIM/RESET, and VIN and SRI rewrite, and the engine started right the way. Thanks again and regards to all of you.
