I have chrysler 300m 2001 and have code p0601 = Internal Control Module Memory Check Sum. And mil lamp flash. I have buy another pcm but not new pcm. I wonder if i can desolder chip from pcm and change vin number in hexdata and solder back on next pcm. And if i can change immo code in this box.

    Best Regards Fredrik

Why do you need to do it? You can just swap your pcm with that one you bought from junk. Who cares about vin in pcm?

Hello! I have found that writing a VIN to a Chrysler PCM is a common feature among Scantools. If you have at least a Snap-On, it should be able to write the VIN for you.

Default About Chrysler PCM VIN (Long post)

Have spent much time, and have learned alot from the great guys here on DK. You're all greatly appreciated. for your knowledge, experience and generous sharing.

I've worked in Chrysler and GM dealers for many years. Have an independent shop 11 years now, while trying to make the most of resources without breaking the bank, and trying to keep up with dealer level information and capabilities. This forum is another valuable , even priceless resource. Have spent many hours reading , learning and trying to contribute when I can.

Having trouble learning about all the different software and hardware and it's uses. Maybe for another thread - but I have not found a good starting point to learn "what's for what". Probably being too general, maybe should work on one at a time. Mostly now wanting to help myself and others learn about programming and coding ECM's, and the different methods for different makes & models, both in the US and worldwide.

So here's a specific issue that I have some knowledge, but want to learn much more. Pasted below is my email to a tech support guy at a "tuner" company, have not heard back. Since 2000 or so, there's been changes in how we can swap failed Chrysler PCMs with good used modules. Please read on and share if you can...Thanks to all !!

    -----------------------------------------------------------

Been revisiting the issue many times in past years..

This time trying to make a used PCM work in this 2000 Dodge Van. Original PCM (JTEC) had power supply failure. The used PCM works fine, and I successfully flashed with DRB3 and Chrysler DealerConnect with latest update. I also have a CarDAQ+, but did not use it this time.

The trouble is that the ABS module kicks a code "MISMATCHED VIN", and there's no (easy) way to change or clear a VIN in a Chrysler computer, though a VIN can be added on a "new" reman. SO with this van, we would need either a "new" $800 PCM, or a new $400 EBCM that would learn the existing PCM VIN, to have the ABS light be out like it should. Not on this van, but others might also have trouble with SKIM security and airbag modules.

I use the OEM software and hardware, but you can only write a VIN to a new/reman, fresh computer, and not one from the salvage yard that already has a VIN stored. Not about security or theft, just want to be able to configure a used computer, and not be at the mercy of the big companies.

BTW, it's easy with GM to write a new VIN to a used PCM when reprogramming, the PCM has to match the car it's running on. It's a big help to be able to try a salvage yard computer to replace an original one with a hardware failure.

Trying to figure out how the rebuilders, like Cardone, Standard and others can clear the VIN so that the replacement part can have the correct VIN entered with the DRB3. Also I see companies online like http://bgspecialists.com/ that can do this process, this one charges $130. I want to learn, or where to start learning how these guys do it. Been reading on what's involved with the "tuner" guys, about dumping the ECM's and manipulating the binaries. I'm not interested as much about messing with the performance side of things, but wondering if we can find where the VIN and other flags like theft deterrent config is located, and if/how it can be edited.

Any help, advice, or whatever is appreciated. I would gladly pay (within reason) for hardware, software, licensing, or "secrets" that will help proceed.

    Thanks again for your time...

All the Chrysler modules I've seen are sealed in "potting" compound. Be difficult if not impossible to get at board to do anything. Been wanting to figure out how the rebuilders do it, believe there's special procedures and chemicals to dissolve the silicone compound. Have read somewhere maybe can dig and scrape. I've tried that on old PCMs, it's tough.

if you have a donor pcm and you get the skim or ariel around ignation from the same car.(it will match and start after you program the key)you also need to get the vin off the donor car to get a pin number from dealer or locksmith.

I think the PIN is in the SKIM module, should not be problem matching SKIM with another PCM, but I could be wrong. I do know SKIM and key programming is fairly easy with DRB3.

With Skim reader and reprogrammer tool you can edit the vin in the Skim of any Chrysler , Dodge, Jeep vehicles and with Cardaq or AVDI you can edit the VIN in the ECU so it matches that on the Skim. And then program a new key to it. You may need to connect to techauthority.com for downloads if necessary

Thanks, what reprogrammer tool to edit vin in Skim?

What software to use with Cardaq+ (I have one)?

What is AVDI? I have AD T300 (clone) key programmer, never thought to try on this van, there's no security system.

    Thanks again....

Skim reader and AVDI . Cardaq does not need any special software as the software that comes with it will do it under 'Flashing" tab

Thanks, will try it tonight. I don't understand how we can edit VIN or anything else without some external software communicating through the CarDAQ.
