Can be programmed directly into the circuit without the need to cut or lift any terminal, using the ATMEGA terminals 1,2,3,4

Default can I upgrade the interface?

Hello everyone and a Happy New 2012!

I own a VCDS 10.6 interface which is equipped with a FT232RL chip. The interface works fine, I'm using it only with the VCDS version that came with it.
However I have an issue which determined me to try an update to a newer version (11.x). I was recording a log for my 2007 Passat 2.0 TDI 170 hp (the ECU is Siemens PPD 1.2), but the MAF Specified and MAF Actual values (group 003, channels 2 and 3) are absolutely IDENTICAL for all logged timestamps and I suspect a software/firmware related cause.

Based on the pictures of the interface, please help me with the following info:
    1. what is the main chip mounted on the interface? Is it ATMega or NEC? (it has no marks on it)
    2. is it safe to use the original version of VCDS with this interface?
    3. does this interface support a newer version of VCDS (whether if it is original or specific)? if yes, what steps should be taken in order to enable this?
    4. where can I find the factory dumps for the chips that are mounted on this interface?

    Here are the pictures:

    Thank you for your support,
    Cristian
