I have taken your word and purchased another lead with GAL/ATF but I have carried on using the lead without GAL/ATF without problem - done adaptatons on some cars and recently done some coding.
Does anyone know for certain any problems with this lead - I'm wondering if someone very clever may have figured out GAL/ATF isn't actually necessary.
Does anyone have a VCDS flash dump (Fw) but not with 512 byte bootloader, with the bootloader of 1024 bytes?
Hi all, i have one hex can interface with non working CAN bus, i already re-flashed it with 11.11.0 dump and changed MCP2515 IC but it's no good. Today i tested it on Tiguan 2007 MY but keeps saying CAN not ready. It's a very usual clone design. In last 5-6 years i encountered many times problems with K-line but this is second or third time that CAN bus was problematic. Any help is welcome.

You do wrong. You don't need to reflash ATmega or change MCP 2515. You must change MCP 2551 and You'll solve Your problem if Your Tiguan have CAN protocol ? It's possible that Your Tiguan use KWP2000 protocol instead CAN, but... You must check...
Anyway, in most situation CAN problem is causing fault on MCP 2551, so, change this IC and You'll solve problem about CAN protocol.

I several times repaired a cable. There was bad CAN-line. I programmed atmega many times. The signal an oscillograph looked, the signal was in norm. I replaced all chips (MCP2515, MCP2551, atmega, all quartz resonators: atmega and MCP..). Didn't help.
I wanted to stop and not to repair. But then I replaced FT232 and CAN the protocol earned. Chinese seal chips of bad quality.
I still don't understand why FT232 is guilty, but it is the truth.
@Igorm Hello mate, it's been quite long time that i've seen your post, i feel honored from thread starter. I hope that you are doing fine. This tiguan is 100% CAN based because i used other interface on it and diagnose ABS, cent. electronics etc. and with faulty one i could do only engine since it's on K-line, however my interface doesn't have MCP2551. It has TJA1050, maybe i should change this IC.
@magadan i have FT232BL chip, i will change it and post news tomorrow

TJA1050 is norm chips for CAN-bus. Many avto control panel have this chips.
I wrote about the difficult case. In your case can be and other failure.
At first check signals on a cable an oscillograph. If they are, try to replace quartz resonators. And at the end replace chips which participate to CAN-protocol.

I would like to establish CAN tester on table, i have it now for K-line but in moments like these i have to wait until tomorrow for CAN based car to test. Can somebody suggest the way, what do i need, CAN gateway and some module or two or can gateway isn't necessary. I can easily obtain EDC16 ecu, so what do you think?
I have this "tester on table" with an airbag controler for K lines and a CAN-Gw from a skoda for CAN, connected on a "OBD-female" connector, powered with a 12V source.
K-line from airbag going to pin 7 OBD, CAN H and CAN L from CAN-GW going to OBD too. None connected between CAN-GW and Airbag controlers. Only power and GND are common.
So you have only CAN-GW for CAN testing, that's good, i thought i will have to buy at least one more module beside gateway. I also have airbag module for K-line testing purposes
