    @Dynamicdk: Did you check it first with HWType, maybe the bootloader is enabled?

    Check the pins with multimeter or solder 4 wires directly on pins of Atmega.

    I have one dead vcds clone hex v2.after changed LM2940 and 2x9241A it came to life with k1 k2 ok, but CAN line is dead.
    LM2940 is very very hot after a few seconds.
    What's the problem? i don't want to change CAN controlers if LM2940 will be so hot again.

    Did you test it in a car with CAN bus system?
    If the interface is only connected to power (+12V and GND) then the CAN bus is always shown as faulty.

    Yes, tested on car, passat b6.
    I had change MPC2515 too, same result.i don't have a TJA1050 and quatz.but i think, is to much to work.
    It is better to buy a new one.

    Check what voltage levels you have on your CAN pins and chip power pins...
    you can always buy another one...

    The LM2940 is nothing else then the LM7805 (and they can get quite hot ).
    I would check the voltage around LM2940 (Vin and Vout) and the capacitors around it.
    If nothing fund then hook up an ammeter to power supply of the VCDS and
    take one chip after another down until you see an drop on the ammeter ==> thats the defect chip.

    If you cant find anything after an hour or so keep it as spare and order a new one.

    Can't loose nothing ^^.

    10x all of you.
    I found, in my mistery box two echivalent for tja1050: vn7342 & mpc2551. I'll try with one of them, it is the last chance.
    However, original is Ata6551, only speed is different.

    This CAN Not Ready issue is becoming a sickness... Could you please continue testing until you find a solution?
    Hot LM2940 usually means some component is draining lots of power = shorted. In your case it looks like it was either ATA or MPC2551.
    Can you check all the tracks on the PCB related to CAN so that the continuity exists on all of them and none of them is burnt or broken?
    I can calculate ABS module codings for:
    * Continental/Teves MK60EC1 and MK60;
    * TRW systems in Passat B6 / B7 / CC /Tiguan;
    * MK100
    ;
    * Bosch ABS8.2, ABS9.0 and ESP8.2, ESP9.0;
    * EBC 460 (UP!, Mii, Rapid, CitiGo, Fabia, Toledo, etc) New!
    *
    ... and other VW/Audi/Seat/Skoda modules.I can assist with repairing \/CDS interfaces.

    It is alive now, uhhh...
    Change ATA with NV7342, and finally works.
    To many components changed, and a lot of time...
    And LM have normal temperature.
