still have a code 01179 and 01176

Yesterday I was replacing my old AT93C56A (ATMEL EEPROM) 8/16bit without Program Enable to another one from Microchip: 93LC86C 8/16bit with Program Enable.

Datasheet is clear: when PE is tied to GND, program is disable, when is tied to VCC program is enable and this pin cannot be left unconnected.

My PCB has this pad connectd to GND so I lifted up that pin and tied to VCC. Till now everything OK, right?

I tried to program the EEPROM via FTPROG and MPROG and no matter what I couldn't.

That's when I remembered that FT232BL only supports 93C46, 93C56 and 93C66... But I tought that the FTDI's datasheet was old and newer versions of the 93C will also be compatible.

I tried with another one: ST M93C86 and the result was the same.

I emailed FTDI if to check If I am doing anything wrong of if FT232BL doesn't support this EEPROM's

I don't know if you remember, but I think that 93C86 cannot works, because amount of proper clocks is missing.. so means, that 93C96 needs more clock for reading/writing than 93C46/C56... I finally use 93S46 or something like it.. I wrote couple days before, that is working well with this memory

Yah I read that... but I just can find EEPROMs with Program Enable above 93C76 inclusive.

So I give it a try and ordered a couple 93C86 (16bit)

I can't find a 93C46, 93C56 or 93C66 with PE.

Give me the exact reference of that EEPROM so I can check if it has PE or not because the one you said above "93S46 is a "HIGHSPEED6-BITIDENTITYCOMPARATOR" =)

Just found it: it's the M93S46

First data damaged is eeprom area in atmega , the last damaging step is the FTDI eeprom ( 93CXX for FT232B or inside FT232R).
I uploaded a loader for 812 version in a previous post, this loader can repair modified data into Atmega.

Another question: I noticed that there are cracked versions of VCDS around. In what way do these differ from regular versions? Is it the damaging of the cable, or the internet connection, or something else?
Because if I understand correctly, an uncracked VCDS should work with a 3rd party cable as well, right?

After @0020 can put all to 00 and "some" serials comm.

Yes i am sure.
i know that all chinese dumps have first checksum equal to 00 00 , but it does not mean that this value is always 00 00 , try to change this value in any dump , and you will get Self test error

Animebot, don't underestimate Tr3ce13!
He already showed proofs that is doing progress in modding the vcds.exe.
My sugestion is that both should share information together.

I don't know the difference because i never used chinese cracked versions , a cracked version can be better than original when it is cracked correctly.
VCDS original or cracked does not work with third party interfaces , except VCDS lite.

I do have another 106 cable recovered with the 908 dump and original software posted here and it works perfect, but I need new software with new labels.

I can't try this cable with other software since it only works with the 10.6.2 that came with it.

It's not any secret
Not everything is for free in this life, that's why this dump ain't for free ( for now )
If you want it for free you have to wait till another upgraded VCDS dump will show up on black market and for sure this one ( 10.6.0) will be for free.
Then you'll can enjoy. For now you can find for free a previos versions 908 dump ( here in this great forum DK)
Use it and enjoy.
