    Please foto. Tried with one car? Maybe a fault in the car electrical system?

    Here are the links to the images. You'll see the same chip being burnt on 2 different cables. And 2 different cars. Mk5 Golf and Mk7.5 Golf R

    CAN chip is burnt out.
    What markings on the chip are there?
    Would be interesting to see the datasheet of it.

    Also, seems like voltage regulator has suffered too.
    You'd better post high-res pics of those components from undamaged cables.
    I can calculate ABS module codings for:
    * Continental/Teves MK60EC1 and MK60;
    * TRW systems in Passat B6 / B7 / CC /Tiguan;
    * MK100
    ;
    * Bosch ABS8.2, ABS9.0 and ESP8.2, ESP9.0;
    * EBC 460 (UP!, Mii, Rapid, CitiGo, Fabia, Toledo, etc) New!
    *
    ... and other VW/Audi/Seat/Skoda modules.I can assist with repairing \/CDS interfaces.

    This is a high resolution image of the cable. Not mine. But exactly the same.

    I doubt in repairing, tried on mine V2 (actual V1) didn't work. ( k2 ) is still dead.
    Honestly I'm thinking of ditching the VCDS clones, Carly is similar in price, and original with support and warranty. And seems to support various brands.

    now chip prices are skyrocketing and very difficult to buy. maybe no fly stm405 vii plus loader vcds hex-v2 to sell soon.

    Billyym,

    There is a chance that voltage regulator is/was defective on those cables.
    So probably fake batch of regulators, incorrectly marked or really defective. Probably they made 12v->9v conversion rather than 12->5...
    For the purpose of experiment, could you open up the existing working cables, connect 12V to the cable's OBD2 side on bench and test the voltage output after the regulator using multimeter?
    I can calculate ABS module codings for:
    * Continental/Teves MK60EC1 and MK60;
    * TRW systems in Passat B6 / B7 / CC /Tiguan;

    * EBC 460 (UP!, Mii, Rapid, CitiGo, Fabia, Toledo, etc) New!
    *
    ... and other VW/Audi/Seat/Skoda modules.I can assist with repairing \/CDS interfaces.

    It was a lot of problems, and the part that caused this is the following voltage regulator2920A-5.0WS .image_2021_03_11T14_26_47_227Z.jpg
    If you still have testers from that lot, I advise you to contact the seller, ask him to send you the respective part and replace it yourself because you risk damaging the others as well. To make sure that the others have no problems, you should to measure that voltage regulator . If you don't know how, contact an electronics technician.
    You don't have much to do with the pcb burned can chip, because you don't know if the ARM microcontroller has been damaged and the best thing is to send it back pcb and the seller send you another pcb for replacement.

    Is it possible to replace it with a better voltage regulator? We could replace it with a voltage regulator that is more robust

    Edit....Just reread the post from Hid3 and p.m message from very helpful person its the CAN Transciever....although couldn't find any info on the chip on google.

    Are you saying the seller should send the same exact part? It that part is not good, why replace it with the same?

    Sending PCB back to China, are you joking? transport would be too expensive

    Let's find an equivalent for that part, locally

    What hid3 saying if i got this right is the voltage reg might be duff or it might be fake regulator it might be outputting 9v instead of 5v which 2920a -5.0ws is....note 5ws is the output....so if you have electronic store get a proper 2920A 5v output....that's the reason it might be burning the Can chip....you easily test it yourself if you have multimeter....if remember middle pin is output...and left pin ground....you should have around 5v to ground.

    Please change a new original MIC2920A-5.0WS, SOT223, before you use
