just like to thank people for this thread, very useful and ive learnt a lot, spent about the last 2 weeks reading all this and sorting my cable, not quite there yet but nearly, the soldering of the of the ATMEGA 162 chip was a little tricky for me,(eyes not as good as they used to be) but got there in the end.
