    Default Not plugged into car

    Hello,

Please help: I have a Vag-com 908 china cable. Unfortunately I had to reinstall my operating system (win7). Now the cable doesn't want to work. My previous system was also win7 where it's worked. With the china 908.1 software I get time out error message always, and the software is not starting.

With the 908.0 version the software is starting but I get "not plugged into car" message however it's plugged. This also happening with the 812.4 version.

I have never used or installed higher than 908 version.

When I plug it in the car I see green LED light.

    What is the problem?

    Thanks

just tried again and the cable works on the car but not when pluged into the lpt port, light is off but comes on when unpluged, think its a problem with the earth wire on the atmega chip? anyway tried scan on car but only runs part through then says requires registerd cable and in the info part it says requires full scan or something to activate, tried several times but no luck, then asked for drivers again and now wont find cable in windows xp, any help please. thanks mick

    Hi
Lost use of my vag com lead a couple of days ago due to running updated software. Was working with VCDS 10.6.0 with firmware 1.81, Will UPGRATE FIRMWARE 908.rar return it to its original state or will I have to use different software and drivers.
Could I also flash it to version 805 if I wanted or is it hardware dependant
I also notice in the 908 firmware there is a modified eprom file should I use this or original?

    Thanks
    Andy

PS my hardware no longer knows when it is plugged into the car but updated software tried to upgrade my firmware to 1.83, Could this cause it to not know if its connected to the car?

hiho, on page 84 you can see mine pictures of 908 interface with the FTDI232RL chip and with the instructions "http://www.digital-kaos.co.uk/forums/f152/solution-clone-vcds-908- to flash FT232R 160 237 / "i made it to flash my FTDI chip, and now is also recognized correctly. Unfortunately, now I get always the message "interface not plugged into car" I think I have now the ATMEGA chip to flash with PonyProg, is that correct? my problem is, I can't open PonyProg because the DIPortIO.dll is missing ... what can I do?

    regards

In answer to my own question above
Used modified eprom file and all went well
Unit now knows when ignition is on and working as it was.
I used an external usb programer for the atmel without any problems (Smart Pro X5) Using the 4 wire ICP connector

I bet in the USB-SERIAL Adaptor.

Usually they never work for this kind of applications: uC programmers, programmable automation controller...

You can try a PCMCIA or ExpressCard adaptor:

    For old laptops with PCMCIA:
PCMCIA to RS-232 Serial DB9 CardBus Adapter Card Laptop - eBay (item 370481493060 end time Mar-06-11 02:43:56 PST)

    For new laptops with ExpressCard:
*RS-232 Serial Port Express Card ExpressCard Adapter - eBay (item 230513418951 end time Mar-17-11 01:51:53 PDT)

USB<->RS232 adaptors emulates a COM port and sometimes the emulation won't work for some devices (programmers and PLCs)

Those PCMCIA or ExpressCard adaptors add a physical COM port to your laptop.
