    @ SunFlame, @petrodies

your interfaces must be reflashed otherwise no chance to be up and runing.

@petrodies - for your interface you will find only the dump 908 (for free) - at least as I know.

@ SunFlame - open up the case and have look what FTDI device do you have inside.

    A) to reflash your tools you will need a programmer
    - cheapest - parallel port using the PonyProg software
    - some $ - (around 15$) ISP Atmega - have a look on ebay.

    B) solder tool will be used to realize the set-up for programming the tool.

    C) for reflash the uC - you will need the dump (hex code which will be writen in) - this dump (if you have chance) can be found here into the forum section.

looking for your feedback - where you are?

    Thanks Mishu,

I already have the dumps for 908 but I need a little more practise with my solder tool.

unfortunately for you (looking to the pictures) you must solder 4 wires on the uC's pins.

there are some other pcbs with more access to the pins - not in your case .

just find the right diameter for the wires and be patient ...

    good luck!

CHINA VAGCOMS FTDI 232 RL, HAVE NOT TESTPOINT ON THE BOARD ! SO u can solder on the MCP 2515 , u find there the mosi miso sck, and get the reset from atmega162 pin 4.
but 3 wires on the big MCP, very easy, little carefull for the reset wire on the atmega.
the GND wire take it from everywhere .

    bla bla bla .. motorcod..

but if you have the ATMEGA set for SPI closed ( serial programming interface ), will never read via ISP .
you will need to open the Atmega via STK 600 original atmel programmer, via 22 wires, or 44 tqfp socket.

dont talk a lot and nothing

Mate if this is your tool you don't need to solder the wires direct to Atmega or MCP you can solder near the USB wires.
Check the contiuos thrue there to Atmega.
It is easy to update that kind of tool but take care what cipijoint said about SPI.
For this you just need a cheap Atmega fusebit Doctor HVPP to return to the factory settings and then you can reprogramm it againLike this one. Easy to use.

Thank so much for your support, i have opened my cable, and it looks exactly the same as petrodies's cable. The FTDI = FT232RL.

I also have a question, if you look this picture, why is there 2 pins soldered together on the FTDI?

    Imageshack - imag0243ax.jpg

The Atmega chip is atmega162. Can i use a simple and cheap programmer like this one? :

New USB ISP Programmer for ATMEL AVR 51 ATMega ATTiny | eBay

    It is only ~10 dollar.

This stuff is very interesting, soldering will be a challenge with my shaking hands :P

    @SunFlame: as I told you - few $
answer: Yes it is good for what you need.

@cipijoint - instead to unlock the Atmega162 (if SPI is closed = as you point out) easy is to change with a new one. (motorcod = just caching butterfly)

not everybody has a programmer and not even easy to find a friend which has such tool, but you can find easily one solder tool without stress.

I want to share with you one strange issue which I found during repairing one VCDS tool.

    - I received one interface for upgrade but in the same time the guy told me that the interface is behaving weird.
    - OK - first step reflash the uC with a good dump
    - second start testing. first test OK
    - after that I disconnected the interface from USB port keeping the OBD plug on with plugging again the tool into USB port result: USB device not recognized.

    hmmmm
    - I disconnected the tool from both (OBD and USB) after that I plugged first the USB and second the OBD, results: USB device ok, test interface ok, license - NOT activated!!!!

    hmmmmm

    - reflash again the uC like first time (see few lines above), have done the test - all OK.

    - repeat the other test - same behavior.

What should I do? Where should I look to solve the issue?

I hope I will solve the issue with your inputs.

@mishu_b - do you wanna say that the tools it is recognized from time to time?
I mean sometime is Activated, sometimes it dosen't.
Change the ftdi first and see what happen next.
    Good luck
