    Hello,

I am going crazy with my vcds. A friend gave it to me as a working 9.12, but I can't get it to work at all. It does install drivers normally, as Ross-tech direct USB. The driver details show VID 0403 and PID FA24, so no problem there I suppose. I has the FT232RL chip. It also shows a short red light when I plug it into OBD and then it turns green. When I connect the cable and do the test I press save. Also tried to roll back the computer clock. Version I've tried so far gave me the following results:
8.05 - cable test pass unplugged and no interface found when plugged in car during the test.
9.8.0 - same, everything fine when I plug it in and do the test on the desk and when I plug it into the car - cable test fails (Port OK, Interface - not found).
    9.8.1 - timeout error.
    9.12 - timeout error.
10.6 - cable maybe crashed error.

    Any ideas?

Your friend must give you the software VCDS912 specific for your interface. The soft is coming with that interface.
Is modified soft in the case of VCDS FT232RL.

If you haven't that soft, you must reflash and modify the interface like in tutorial of Aminebot (reflash Atmega, GAL, desolder 4 componenst and solder 3 wires). Search'it.

I've tried MProg today, but my cable comes up as "Ross-Tech HEX USB" in the device manager, and it will not accept the drivers for the MProg as it says: "there's no information about thic compenent in this driver".

Am I completely lost here? Or what should I do in order to reflash the FT232BL?

If your cable is recognized as "Ross-Tech HEX USB" and have on detail VID and PID are 0403 and FA20, you must reflash atmega.
But, the driver is not in that .ept file. For update driver you must choose the path to the folder Rostech..

    VID_0409&PID_0058\5&340A0F05&0&1

    EDIT:

Seems like I managed to read out the FT232BL on an other computer.

Then I programmed the FT232BL with a dump, and now the interface is recognised in the device manager as: "ROSS TECH HEX or KEY USB interface"

    Just like it was before!

So it's great, but when opening VCDS 10.6 I get the following error:

"Cable not found error code -1"

now, the VID:0403 PID:FA20 So it seems like I will have to flash the Atmega....

    VID_0409&PID_0058...

Another VID and PID appear if atmega is rewrited by vcds (another version, internet update, etc)... Must reflash ATMEGA too, is not enough reflash only FTDI. The procedure..is here, on DK..

Okay Mate thnaks! Figured that out yesterday. Btw. this whole process seems to be really complicated, but once you've done it's pretty easy!
