    I will try to explain, but it seems that because of a bad translation, not everyone understands me. Some cars of 2017-2019 year can not be diagnosed normally until you open the hood, it turned out after connecting the VCP(vag can pro) there is a hint OPEN PLEASE THE HOOD FOR DIAGNOSTICS. After opening the hood vcd$ worked well with such cars.
    I think that the sensor of the closed hood does not allow the 19th unit (CAN) to switch to the diagnostic mode.

    This also applies to vehicles in which the automatic locking mode is activated when the driver's door is closed or if the key is inserted in the ignition for door diagnostics should be unlocked.

    Hey Guys,

    I bought a cable from Aliexpress a while back. I couldn't get it to work with the stock firmware it came with.
    Somewhere else online I found VCDSLoader_v2. I flashed the firmware and the cable started working.
    However, the cable is very flaky. It works for a few seconds and I can get a single scan or sometimes no scans done before I start getting comunication errors. Unplugging and plugging the USB cable back in gets me back where it may work or may not work.

    Wondering if this is a hardware issue or if there's anything I can do to improve the reliability of the cable.
    I will try the latest VCDSLoader and see if that helps.

    Thanks!

    Looks like it's got fake FTDI chip along with fake MCP's... Nothing unusual for a cable from Aliexpress, you get what you pay for.
    I can calculate ABS module codings for:
    * Continental/Teves MK60EC1 and MK60;
    * TRW systems in Passat B6 / B7 / CC /Tiguan;
    * MK100
    ;
    * Bosch ABS8.2, ABS9.0 and ESP8.2, ESP9.0;
    * EBC 460 (UP!, Mii, Rapid, CitiGo, Fabia, Toledo, etc) New!
    *
    ... and other VW/Audi/Seat/Skoda modules.I can assist with repairing \/CDS interfaces.

    Okay. When I plug it into my linux computer i get kernel USB communication errors. I guess it must indeed be a fake dodgy FTDI chip.
    I've ordered the recommended one from obd2cartool. So hopefully that arrives soon and I can have a reliable cable.
    Out of curiosity. How can you tell it's a fake FTDI? I know that's common, and it seems to be the cause of my problems, so I don't doubt it.

    The FTDI chip does have markings on it. But they're not very pronounced.

    Thanks!

    Edit: Comparing the markings to an FTDI chip on my BUS pirate it's definitely not the same. Yeah must be fake.

    I replaced the FTDI chip with a genuine one from a uart board i had lying around. Flashed the FTDI chip and the Atmega and now HWType and EEWriteLange work and 18.9.0 works reliably too!
    Thanks for the help!

    Hey, been using \/AG189 cable from obd2cartool. And recently when I connect cable to my pc it doesn't work anymore, in device manager i get Unknown USB device (Device descriptor request failed). Any ideas?

    Let.s repeat what many other s allready write on this topic: ad some pics with your pcb and then share your problems. We can not guess what is inside your cable...

    First thing, use multimeter to make sure each and every wire of USB is still intact and not broken

    Have you solved the problem with the chip or is it a different cable?
