Hi. I would like to buy a HEX-V2 cable for my VW Passat B8. Is latest 19.6.1 a good version? I don't know if I am allowed to insert links, but it is sold by Shop5*******9 store on Ali, listed as ATMEGA162+16V8+FT232RQ. Images form the listing:

What's that colour cable on the first image? Looks like a cable for programming/updating (the listing says Can't update, only Germany/ English) ?

Hi,
The color cable on your first image is an interface side of the programming cable.
The inteface can't updateable through the official online way. But you can update (or downgrade) it to any language by yourself with a special application (thanks K0l!M3R) or an external USB programmer (USBasp / USBisp) + a programmer application (e.g.: ProgISP)
The offered VIP DK Option 2 (V2) is a much better choice (because of the quality of mounted parts) than what's on the posted Ali pic.

I heard from few guys that the 19.6.2 English version is works quite well, but the 19.6.2 HGJ (Hungarian) is not as good with the V9.2 as with the 19.6.1 (e.g. module coding). I don't know how correct is it (sad tuth or an urban legend) but has anybody experience with the 19.6.2 DRV (German) version + V9.2? Is it a stable / works good enough or better to choose an earlier version like 19.6.1 or 18.9?

It all depends on the type and version of car you are working on .

9.2 and DRV works fine for me on a 2019 octavia ................

Thanks for the reply. Yesterday I red ca. 50 pages and it's clear to my that my best choice is the VIP cable. I know that's not a real HEX-V2 cable, because clone of it doesn't exists, but I really hope that I can least read/clear error codes (+read DPF status) on my MQB platform Passat B8. As someone posted 19.6.x theoretically should work, because limitation was only in the software. Is there any risk to try long coding with this cable? If so, I rather not try it.

I think if I am just reading/clearing codes, theoretically nothing bad can happen?

I changed atmega162 as well and flashed gala chip again using content/correct dump from another forum (details PW). i Used programmerTL866 II Plus using instructions with lockbits and fuses, in package kolimer 7.2 there is any way ready project to open in tl866, so no need set lockbits and fuses, project is ready to flash.

Bassicly i found newest kolimer 8.x loader which should work with 18.9.1 eng but not tested yet.

One of my friends got a $h!t cable, what was registered (e-mail to China and reg file returns from there) and used for few times. Now something happened with it and he cannot use due communication error, car not found, ect. Mounted with Atmega162, so can I update it with K's cable content?

Had bad experience last time, even with "quality clones". Price rise extreme. I have enough. Fake FTDI, fake hybrid GAL, even the crappy atmega died. The only one which works i homemade 10 years ago 232/kkl with si**** drivers. Ali is wasted money. I have to laugh....Our little dictator reversed the old VAG 1552 and now the thief is shouting catch the thief. I will maybe start to believe in karma...hehe... Open source is the future. Flooding the market with free information, do we have freedom of speech, didn't we? the only way to have fun of their laughable genuine cables without issues with long coding. Even Softing is complaining less than Uwe, why?!

The last dead atmega board flew out of the window and now is for me end with that cheap crap. Take with a grain of salt.

tino3: At least a real V2 clone? Probably blacklisted then. I would buy an 5054... I wonder the company taking care of clones than their own products still not went bankrupt.

Just like tino3, I would really like to hear if anyone have had working experience with that specific cable?
If it works like Obd2cartool promise, I could be tempted to buy one. They just seem more reliable than other no-name suppliers like on Ali etc.

But does it really work - and more than just 2-3 times???
