That means that you are using 2010 service ranger, the license key he gave you is for 2008 service ranger. You have to install service ranger 2008 license it then install service ranger 2010 over top of 2008 without uninstalling it. Before you install 2008 service ranger you will have to go in and delete all registry for 2010 service ranger because the 2010 registry key still will be saved even if you uninstall 2010 service ranger and install 2008.

i updated it to the 2010 version and it was working for a couple of weeks - now it asked for unlock code - i tried uninstalling and re-installing the 2008 version and using the gen for 3.0 still dont work. I deleted all the program files that i could find for this when i uninstalled it. how do you clean registry in XP?

You can delete Registry files on XP go to RUN ,regedit HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE look for the file EATON right click and delete. hope this helps
