I found some powered external antennas several months ago. But I can't remember where.

If you can locate an old in-car kit, the powered kind, it could be used. Every phone has a connector of an external antenna. As long as you can keep the connection while handling the phone it should be easy to adapt any kit.

the reception in my area is shit to put it bluntly.

I got in touch with vodaphone who my contracts with and they sent me a femtocell, it looks like a router that you plug in to the internet and to the mains and voila you have a mobile cell tower.

The power on it isnt that great, it covers my house and just about out to my shed after that it tails off to nothing.

Apart from the odd restart or my internet going down i never have a problem any more.
I had to set it up first by logging into their website and giving my number (and numbers of friends / family on their network) that want to use it, its private in that unless i slap a number into a website the phone wont connect to it.

I heard they wanted to charge for these things, i never paid a penny i just told em to shove their contract up their arse and they gave me one gratis.

Go with a powered external antenna. All of those stick-on ones only look cool.

Shop around but a quick search found this: Wilson DirectConnect Cellular Power Booster, Signal Booster, Cell Phone Booster, Improve Cellular Reception In Home, Office, Cars and Trucks
