    Streaming High Definition to PC?

has any1 tried streaming high definition stuff from the dreambox to the pc? I've started reading up but it seems people are having problems with their cpu maxing out using vlc.

Hi Mate, I think you'll find the DM500 isn't powerful enough to stream HD material to a network location.

If you want HD, you could possibly get a new DM800 which won't have a lot of support at the moment. Or you could get a DM600 and record the HD signal straight to it's internal HDD then ftp it to you PC and play with VLC locally? I think there are a few tweaks you need to do before this is possible as well though. Sorry I can't be more specific. but noticed this wasn't answered ;-)

well i gave it a go, i tried using bitcontrol and your right about the dreambox not being able to output a required fluid stream of HD data through network. its very pixelated, although i would have liked to use coreavc codec but i just cant seem to manage it.

actually guys i have been messing around with this for like a couple of days now, i have made some improvements.

              Here is my set up:
              DM500c wired to my router,
PC(2Ghz single core) wired to my router,
              Latest VLC with Mozilla Addon,

Using the web interface for the dreambox under firefox i use the WEB-X-TV link to try and watch the HD channel. At first it is very pixelated, but i left it running for 5 minutes and it is now watchable, with just a slight pixelation now and then. The sound is perfectly in sync with the video too.

So i'm thinking maybe there is no problem for the dreambox to output the data through its network, it could just be the codec. I would think that coreavc would help but i have no idea of how you could get another player to take the stream with URL h**p://ipofdreambox:31339/0,0102,090b,091e,090c,00c6, only VLC can understand it. I have tried media player classic, KM player and WMP but to no avail.

I notcied that bitcontrol some how forces the the player to use its own codec, so i'm not sure if anyone could do the same with coreavc??

It has taken me 10 mins from writing this and i can say that the video of the HD stream has improved, there seems to be no pixellation at all. Very fluid.

I done this with me Nokia D box and it works fine. Thing is though a program like Eastenders is 2-3 gig big takes up a lot of disk space.
