    Search function

I am really struggling with search. If I search for

    cal_real.dll

then to my mind I should only get all of that in any search result. Once I have hte results then how can I search within that thread apart from one page at a time which is a real killer in

and I see no reason at all for it being in

that thread anywhere and sometimes even if I go through it page by page it is not there eg:

that thread is returned but it isn't in there anywhere that I can find.

I am generally finding that google searches the site better than the search function which seems odd to me.

    Hiya,

If you want the results to contain only the search string then you need to wrap it in quotes...

    "cal_real.dll"

This means you're searching for that exact expression and it won't return results for "cal" or "dll", etc.

Once you're in a specific thread, you can click on "Search this thread" just above the first post.

Or when you are searching normally, select the "Show Posts" option rather than the default "Show Threads".

    Hope that helps.

Would like to add, would it be possable for file name search.

      1) E.G. - i leeched a file off here, and it worked, but when it was time to report back to the thread, was and still is unable to find where it was leeched it from, can't find it!

      This is an example:-

There is a file uploaded called "bmw[1].rar" - it would be nice to 'reverse leech'

say that file was passworded, (b'stard) - it would be nice to be able to find the thread it came from and choke the shit out the member who put the password on it.

      2) Wildcard search would be cool, if could figure it out.

i love the search function of forums but i have to agree with Mjolinor Dk search function sucks.
even when we follow your instructions it does not search exact phrase and does search all words separately, giving hundreds of unwanted results.

        please make this function better.

        Still in the workshop.

          SLIGHTLY OFF TOPIC:-

When i find a cool thread, i post myself a vistor message with link - never read them, like but there there.

Some posts just disspear into cyber space.

I'm sorry but the search function on here isn't the best I've seen. I mainly use the Nintendo Wii section but if I search for USB Loader GX but it shows threads with USB and Loader and GX. The idea of a search is to find all threads with ALL those words in not individual words? I suppose we are lucky in a way as most forum search won't search for 3 characters or less.

I've just searched for cal_real.dll as Mjolinor has said and its show 912 pages now I have checked the multi-page threads but I've searched the ones of 10 or less and cal_real.dll doesn't show anywhere on that page.
