You have to refresh the page FT. Would be good if it popped up as and when someone sent you one. Dont know if this is an option though.

The pop-up PM notification is working ok for me...

Have you got this option selected under 'General Settings' ?

You could install the postman pat notification ... impossible to miss that one

pat pops up on the bottom right of your screen when a pm comes in
