Hello, I came across this forums while searching for a solution for my Mercedes W211 instrument cluster via yandex. I also wanted to mention: Google seems to censor certain search tags like "eeprom" in combination with car parts it seems. Via Google I never could find this forums it seems.
Nevertheless, my instrument cluster is completely a brick, no lights, no activity at all. I haven't touched it before and it was working 2 weeks ago. Some people say it could be an eeprom error, probably damaged the eeprom chip by reconnecting the battery.
