Hi Guys
got a problem with a Zafira 1.8 (2002) where it has a picture of a orange radiator and star on the dash which seems to be a cooling issue so tried to read engine codes but unable to read codes for some reason from engine ecu is it possible if ac module is faulty it stops communication with engine ecu.
so basically warning light stuck on,no ac,no ac fan,no cooling fan and all fuses etc seem to be fine so just wondering if anyone else has come across this

Hi
Have you tried reading the fault codes from the Cooling Control Module and see if there are any fault codes in there ?...........
Any faults with A/C System will not stop you to communicate with Engine ECU........
There might be some other problem which you would not communicate with Engine ECU...........
What Tool are you using to read anyway ?...........
Have you also checked the Coolant level to see if its not low ?............Also what's your Coolant Temperature readings are ?...........
Low A/C Refrigerant (Gas) will also some times trigger that light...........

Hi
I am sure there must be some fault codes in Engine ECU also in Cooling Control Module which could give you some glue...........Just get the rite stuff to diagnose it and go from there........

no option to read ac module on snapon modis but should read ecu fine but will try again with op-com as i know that has the ac module option

bump
as a rule cooling fans on cars with a/c - see if you can activate them

The A/C module is located behind/front left wheel trim and they get water damage quite ofter, you could have a quick inspection of it, best to put car on a ramp so you can find it from underneath.

thanks mate but checked that as seen plenty on astras with either that or smashed from previous accidents

Hi
Have you considered that fault might be in engine ecu??
Try to put side ways pressure on the ecu plugs by hand and see if any warning light changes on dash... Just beware this can make ecu to break down completely and might make vehicle not to start any more.

Did try that and looked for any contamination inside plugs but nothing

tried that also so but no joy but comp is cutting in so no need to get me guages out to check for pressures and i could maually probe the fans with a power probe and they would try to run before tripping me probe but the allowable current on probes are not very high anyway so i would expect it to trip

just a thought
i had a seat ibiza that hapenned the same thing
turned out to be the outside temperature sensor
what means that if the outside temperature is below
5 degrees celsius the ac doesn't turn on.
try to locate that sensor and heat it a little with
a lighter and try to connect a ac again and check if the
light in dash goes away because that light might be a warning for possible frozen road or frozen cooling.
try this and report back.

sensor is fime it is showing 18oC on dash but yes i know what you mean i had the before with a 2005 530d bmw showing -41 degrees hence why it wont allow ac to run

i think under the bonnet there is a relay in a row of 4 or 5 towards the bulkhead, one of those is for the cooling aux pump on some vauxhalls worth checking this
