ok lads l have an old r reg (1998) 406 2.0 petrol in and it wasnt charging and no alternator light on , replace alternator and still no light .. yes l should of checked . anyway when u rev car the battery light comes on and it starts charging , l had this on a 02 plate one last year and had to add separate wire and bulb to activate regulator but light in the car still worked the same , but this is an older one .

wot l have is a battery light working backwards ? l have disconnected now and its fine without the original battery light wire on . instead of an earth turning the battery light on if u power it the battery light comes on ?

and if u earth the original battery light wire the air con activates ?

French - proerbly got two faults
High riestance postive connection in the fuse box area.

Its a pug - change the 5 amp fuses THEN look for anyfaults - not sure what size yours is - or ignition switch

Was ign on or off when you powered up the warning light, because if it was off then it's normal for the light to come on.

ign as on m8 , his bring back as its cutting out now and again since alternator fitted ( it would wouldnt it lol ) might want stepper motor resetting as the battery was disconnected ? or the wires are shorting somewhere ?

take out cluster, cut track to bat light, and add ign +, job done!!

OR-- Remove loom and take it on holiday with multi meter!

the guy isnt fussed about the battery light as its charging , l was wondering if the fault might be causing the cutting out fault ? thats why l was looking for the common wiring faults

Oh, sorry mate!!

Very possible due to same fault, as batt light is powered by ign supply, so is the ign!!

Poss ign switch, not mega common fault but see it often.

1 - backup wire?
2 - dim - because it's french or drawing an earth via the a/c and/or split charge for tow bar - or just to pish you off
