Hi there,

I'm looking for a ir extender compatible with the ir jack on the S12? I've hidden the box behind the tv, and would prefer not to have to get up and point the remote behind the tv! Something like the sky magic eye but with a 3.5mm jack instead if an rf connection.

Thanks in advance!

can you move position of box?if so try the cheap free fix first, use tinfoil to reflect signal from remote to allow box to receive signal.worth a try first

Thanks for the quick reply. I'd prefer a nice looking installation- does a device like that even exist for the skybox?

there are a number of different ones out there, some using rf,does your box have that ir socket?

Yes it does, a 3.5mm jack (im presuming that is what it is for)

only found this mainly for use in a second room with another tv
Triax Trilink Kit - Modulator and Sky Eye Power (http://www.tvtrade.ie/triax-trilink-kit.html)

need to double check if that is correct jack, like headphones were mono then stereo and jack changed.

I've spent all day trying to find something, but to no avail, unless I want to fork out for a repeater system. Which I don't. Has anyone plugged anything into the IR port on the S12?

any image i google does not show an ir port, think you need to recheck what box and bung up a photo.

It will need an IR receiver, not an IR emitter.. I wouldnt advise you buy and plug any make of 3.5mm IR reciever in there, its almost certainly a proprietary wired socket.. If you plug a mono or even a stereo plug in there the wiring will be wrong and you might short circuit something internally..

If its any help, I have a Skybox M3 that came with an IR reciever to plug into the 3.5mm IR socket.. The 3.5mm plug has 4 cores, so thats 2 more than on a mono plug, and one more than on a standard stereo 3.5mm plug.. I assume it might be the same for the S12, but then it might not..

I think your best option is maybe send off an email to an Openbox/Skybox manufacturer in China, see if you cant order one..

Cactikid, the 3.5mm IR port is on the side

thanks for that guys, I've emailed the manufacturer and I'll report back what he says.

Nope sorry, there's no identification markings on it at all.. Good luck with getting one from China..

Maybe sellers of a Skybox M3 might have had some faulty returns, and maybe they might be happy to sell the IR sensor... But thats assuming the sensor will work with the S12, it might not...
