This transit 2.4 TDCi, after 2 or 3 days, it will start after lots of cranking, and will then run if you hold throttle open, if let it idle cuts out and wont start for a few more days.
Have good fuel pressure, put new crank sensor and cam sensor, programmed another ecu, and still the same.
Also bypassed engine management relay.
Fault codes are main relay de energised too early and main relay energised too late.
This has 2 batteries and when I stop cranking it leaves the ign lights on the dash, but if i run on easy start, when the engine dies the dash goes off with a relay click from behind the batteries under drivers seat.
Can anyone shed any light on what might be the problem here.
Thanks in advance for any info, ninja

looking at live data, cam/crank sync keeps switching from yes to no when cranking, checked flywheel too but looks ok, checked crank sensor signal and is good wave.
I think this one needs a bucket of petrol and a match....................

he said block off egr common problem.

If egr is at fault then I will have various fault codes, done hundreds like that, but this van has no egr related faults, and also the top miles display changes to '-----' when faulty.
thanks for your assistance, ninja

There's a rumor on the toilet door down the pub, says 'PCM update at stealer '
apart from that just regular rude words about Vic

already been to ford when it was running, had pcm update then broke down 2 weeks later.
Thanks for your help, ninja

guys in ford had a transit in today for some repair and had dtc main relay de energised too early and main relay energised too late. and van still going ok,but they had two vans in past mileage blinking van no start and it was down to clocks.

got IDS on it today, there is a 5 second crank test and it is saying no signal from crank sensor, did same test 5 times, 4 times says no crank signal, 1 time say CAM sensor no signal, DTC for CAM sensor signal staying high.
Got it to run first thing this morning after leaving it for 2 days, hold revs on and it ran for 10 mins, let it idle and after 1 min it cut out, cant get it to start again, also, when trying to run on easy start there is no rpm counter movement on dash.
Why when left for 2 days does it run for 1 start then nothing?
Had OE crank and cam sensors too.
Tried a set of clocks and still the same, checked multi plug under ecu and all ok.
Anymore ideas?
Thanks, ninja

TRANSIT IS FIXED!!
I was testing the loom and found high resistance on one of the crank sensor wires, re wired and got a runner.
BUT, why was there never a fault code stored for 'crank sensor circuit' ?? Surely the ecu tests the resistance across the crank sensor when ign is turned on?
Anyone know why this was the case, took bloody ages to solve as was reluctant to test loom due to lack of fault codes for that area.

Because it was high resistance it proberbly could see curcuit but was thingking
you was not cranking just sat with ugh in, clips do that

Its not the diag tool meaty, I had 5 different types of tool on it, never did it show any faults relating to crank sensor circuit, but the ecu should measure resistance across the sensor and if its out of range then a DTC should be set, i tested at ecu plug and was completely open circuit - f*****g thing.
