To role out N3 over the uk will need alot of and careful planing which customers will be notified well in advance of the change, a bit like the big switch over to Digital TV .

I beleive that this would involve subscribers getting new cards / boxs to handle the change of some sort, apparently N3 can be Ha++ed its been done on the satalite platform, so i believe there is much more viewing left to come.

So the answer is yes get a box, a dreambox 500c is a open source linux box which means you can if skilled enough write / update your own software.

as long as the box is supported there will be people out there to do there best, its like a game of cat and mouse if you know what i mean.

Any Linux box i would get oh i do have a 2 x 500c and think its a great little box but to get a original dreambox 500c will be rare, they are mostly clones on the market with bad tuners.

I'm looking for a second for my bedroom, to be honest the first month will nearly pay for the box anyway so its a no brainer. The intenets already in so i wouldn't class that as an extra charge.

Does anyone know of anywhere cheaper than ?60 delivered. Don't mind the blackbox etc

Thanks for all the feedback, I have decided to give him a web address to buy his dreambox with the unuderstanding that they are due to be wiped in a matter of weeks and when they do he should not come running to me saying that he is after been done.

So it is a case of crossing fingers and hope this Nagra3 encryption does not happen as soon as it is being touted by the cable companies.

You could tell him to buy the Openmedia box which has a cable tuner and satellite tuner so if he gets stuffed on cable he can still switch over to the satellite scene providing he gets a dish installed at his house. i have have a dm600C and dm600S and to be honest I wouldn't really miss cable if it did go belly up as the sat side has so much more to offer comapred to cable.

LOL I agree m8, it only takes 1 person with a card to share and everyone else can join that cs group and get their TV for free......so v network might win a battle now & again but they will loose the war.

Would I buy a Dream now? Yes.

I tend to use mine (DM600) now as a PVR. I never watch live tv. Always record what I want to watch and then watch it when I want to. I also found that almost all I want to watch is on terrestrial and therefore FTA.
