DM500 Question about the Null Modem Cable

Hey, So me being a noob, I messed up my DM500s and now when I turn it on the green light on the box comes on but the TV screen is blank and the dreambox doesn't have an ip anymore for me to connect to it from a pc/laptop. So from what I've been reading the last few hours, I was wondering whether one of these cables should be enough to flash it with DreamUP:

    NCIX.com - Buy 6FT DB25M to DB9F Null Modem Cbl - CABLES TO GO - 03019 - in Canada

    and

    NCIX.com - Buy 10 FT. Cross Wired SERIAL/NULL Modem Cable DB9 F/M - Startech.com Ltd - SCNM9FM - in Canada

I have an old laptop which has the male side (with the pins) for the 25pin one and a female side (without the pins) for the 9pin one so that's why I would need one of those cables since my dreambox has the 9pin male side (with the pins).

Hopefully someone can help me out. I would really appreciate it. Thanks!

forget that 25 pin one but the female to female 9 pin one will be good like this

Serial Null Modem 9Pin Female to 9Pin Female : Null Modem Cables : Maplin

if your pc doent have a 9 pin connection then you need one of these as well

USB to Serial 9Pin Male Adaptor : USB Adaptors : Maplin

    then join the together.
you dont need to get those particular ones as they are a bit expensive but you can get the identical ones on ebay for much much less

Hey wilf thanks for the reply. I already have a female-to-female cable but unfortunately I can't use it because my laptop has the female side while the dm500s has the male side so that's why I was curious whether a male-to-female 9pin cable would work. Also, since I already have a female-to-female 9pin, can I just buy the usb-to-serial cable you mentioned and then just connect the usb to the laptop and connect the serial to the female-to-female 9pin cable?
