    DM500 and Dreamup Help

    Hi,
I have finally managed to get a Null modem cable, and a USB to serial converter. When i try and flash an image using Universal DreamUp v1.2.1.5 I plug in the Null modem cable, and when it tells me to turn on the box, i switch it on and get a message "Initiating flash-loader upload..." and it freezes there.

Does anyone know why this is happening? Is Dreamup compatable with Vista? I am getting to the point where ny Dreambox is going to turn into a Transformer and fly to the bottom of my garden soon.

    Any help would be appreciated...

    Thanks

I t could well be the USB to serial converter, i have never been able to flash with one. Try ftp the image to the box then update the image with the remote, there is a tut on how to do it on here.

        Hi
Best advice is to use a PC with a 9 Pin com port, dreamup and a null modem cable for a one off flash. Better with Win XP also.
Have you installed any drivers for the usb to com port adaptor?

I had the same problem with XP, until i loaded the drivers on and all is fine and dandy, why dont you get the drivers from the makers home page, they must be there somewhere.

ITgate TGM220 (swapable tuner), Dreambox 800 pro, Dreambox 500c x 2, DBox, Popbox media player.

I had the same problem with the laptop, there is no 9 pin serial port so I used an old tower pc that is gathering dust. You can get adaptors from ebay that turn usb or pcmcia ports into serial ports but I haven't tried them so can't vouch for how effective they are, they will need drivers installing as well I would think.
            Good luck

hello, i have dream box in bedroom and digivox in living room, i wanted to sort my boxes so that i did not have to manually input key codes, thanks to a thread on digital kaos i was able to sort out my digivox right away very easily, the problem with dream box is i don't understand terms that are used like "flashing" "dreamup" "flashing an image to dreambox" etc, all i need would be a plain simple speak step by step instruction on what i am supposed to download to my box to make it work bearing in mind my technical brain is roughly the size of a pea. thank you.

With windows vista is in the habit of giving problems but with the xp theoretically the dreamup must not give problems
