    DM600 Problem isntalling harddrive

I have followed the instructions from here Page 48.

However it will not detect the hard-drive.

I note from the instructions it says to put the jumper on "Cable Select" the hard drive i ordered did not come with a jumper switch so i got one from a 3.5" one and it seems to fit.

also form the instructions there is says to go to. System Settings, then hard disk. However i don't have that options

On the 600 i have to go to SETUP, Hardware Settings then harddisk, then specific settings but it comes up harddrive not detected.

Has anyone had to install on in a DM600PVR and did you have any problems.

    Thanks in advance.

Well i just broke a pin on the hard-drive now so is there another way of it working as Primary setting rather than "Cable Select" or it looks like i just wasted ?40.

    UPDATE
Just done some reading and going to try and format it in a laptop to FAT32 and reinsert and see if it then detects. Then see if i can format in dreambox.

Dreambox's don't use FAT32 mate, are you sure the hard drive works?

Yeah, same here, i used Western Digital 250gig drive, did not need jumpers. Just shoved it in and formatted it in the Dm600... I would wipe the drive completely first (should have come that way anyhow) your box will format it with linux to a ext3 format.

As for busting the pin, was that one of the four MA CS or SL pins you couls till get away with it, otherwise if its one of the others i think you have ~~~~ed it mate and made yourself a paperweight..

When you insert it dont use the four pins that are on their own...I just about done what you did, but luckily I just bent it back and it worked ok.

            cheers

I almost f*@ked my 600c as well trying to select cable select,
cause it says cable select in the manual,
Think anyone getting a 600c should be made aware
              that its not needed

Yeah broke one of the four pins on their own where you can use the jumper on, going to wipe tomorrow as have a 2.5" external cage which plugs into a computer with USB. Hopefully a format will allow the dreambox to detect it.

oh just a quick question to format did you just do the following?

On the 600 i have to go to SETUP, Hardware Settings then hard disk, then specific settings but it comes up harddrive not detected.

I cannot get into here yet as it just comes up no hard-drive found.

Yes thats how I did it,

If you manage to format it on your PC that just means your H/D is ok
you will have to format it again in the dreambox, if your H/D turns out to
be ok then it must be either the H/D is not installed correctly or somethings
                  wrong with the dreambox,
but am sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong

I put the harddrive in the computer and it detected it now problem and it has been formatted. It all works fine int he computer.

However when i put it back in the Dreambox it does not detect it i just get no Hard disk found.

The cable is the right way around, i can feel the disk spinning whilst the Dreambox is on, im running out of ideas what to try next.

I give it one last try, i will plug in Harddrive and reboot through the menu and if that don't work remove the power cord.
