DM500 Trying to understand, any help is appreciated

Hello there, I'm new here, so please point me in the right direction if I made a mistake or missed something out. Thanks.

    My situation:
I would like to connect my DM500C to my router, and then access FTP with my DM500C.

    Questions...
    1) Do I *need* to get a static IP from dyndns.com? Well, I don't want to have the world be able to access my router/dreambox for obvious security reasons.

    2) Without the static IP, can I still do the FTP-ing since my computers are connected to the same router?

    3) Without the static IP, does it mean that I am safer from malicious attacks? Appreciate any feedback/comments on this, since I'm a noob to this wonderful world of cable tv on dreambox.

    Thank you!!!

    God bless Dreambox

Use DHCP on the box and your router should assign it a local IP, or just set an IP yourself and put your router IP as your primary DNS. Even though you dont have a static IP doesnt mean your box isnt open to the web. Make sure port 80 isnt forwarded.
