DM500 Not quite there.....

I'm in the same predicament as everyone, my box went down, who do you turn to? I found this site and hey things are slowly coming together even for somebody as useless as me (Techno stuff). I've managed to flash the image using the dk image and connected my computer to the box, but cannot find where the keys are stored 4 for love nor money! Looked in the scce and key folders and nothing there. I downloaded winrar and the updated keys 29.11.08
Can anyone tell me that when you open these files and push them over to the dreambox should they be legible because all i get is gobble de gook. I thought is was lined text with numbers.
Winrar is the free trial version is this why?

before you put the new rom fixes into your box you need to put the keys and rom info into your keys folder first m8

Delete everything in your /keys folder.
Extract the /keys folder from the rar.
Copy the contents of this keys folder to your own keys folder.
Reboot your box.

Has anyone managed to fix a Beta image for a DM500. I have no problem with neutrino images but the guy I'm fixing the box for likes the beta setup.

If I do a factory reset from the expert setup menu, will it reset it completely or will the enigma image at least still be loaded on?

The enigma image will still be there but any keys, roms, bouqets etc will all be restored ie youll probz have a bear image.
