What do ram files actually do?

Hi,
I'm with NTL in Ireland and my box went down last week. I added the new rom files to the scee folder but it didn't work. I tried flashing to the new 2.1 image and then adding the ram files with no joy.

What do these files actually do - do they generate keys?

If I setup my box to the internet will the box be able to update itself with new keys or ram files in the future rather than having to manually mess around with it?

do you not mean rom files they make it that the dreambox can update the keys its self they were patched with the new code so they can auto update this is a fast fix as there is no public source for any of the cams if there was or some one was to give one of the coders the source they could do a far better job but this dont look like it will happen

if you were to link your box to the internet you would have to be linked to a server that would send them to your box or you would have to set your box up on a c/s that could read a rom card from some were and update the keys its self

Hi there how would i link up to the internet to get the keys sent to my box. my box is connected to the internet at the moment but dont know how to set up what your saying.

Also what c/s can read my card if i stick it in my dm800 rather than in the virgin box??

well if you were say on a c/s server that had a virgin n1 card on it you would read the keys of it then this would open your chans for you but it means there is a real card some were out there on a server there is also other tools out there that im more than sure that will update the keys files on your box if its set up right there was a post on here telling you how to set your dreambox up to read a card in its reader but im not sure were it went but it dose work from what i know
