for 200quik what they get. If IRD,BK and RSA it a rip-off. For that price we get a modded box that worked for 1 yr+ and still working.

I think the above posters are referring to Server side and not client/user box.

If it is ?200 that's very very cheap as it's fairly skilled when done correctly.

However it will offer ppl the option of joining private servers as they now do with Sat, instead of having to take the closed source offers currently around.

Unfortunately, so few people have actually bothered to learn the opensource skills necessary that you can consider Dreambox and the like to be almost as 'closed' source as any other box. For most people there's absolutely no difference between waiting for a fix from closed source manufacturer A or opensource group B, except the closed source soulution is often several months ahead of the opensource version.

Also, agreed, ?200 is actually quite cheap to remove a bga flash chip, read it and replace onto the board. Its actually quite a skilled job that could easily take several hours.

If you really want to try to do it for yourself then you can. The information necessary is relatively easy to aquire if your willing to do some research (hint, learn some Spanish).

Yes, i agree with the above theory regards Dreambox being "as" closed source.

I guess what i was getting at is that the information is there but most people for whatever reason choose not to take the time to disect and digest it as you suggested above.

Fortunately or Unfortunately as some may say, Closed source solutions have deeper pockets and more financial interest than that of the enthusiast mods. For that reason punters may choose the easy solution for some time to come due to fairly prompt fixes.

                Hi B2K, pardon my ignorance.

You are right further considering the cost of Progger, reballing, rebonding etc. it now seems very reasonable. My bad.

I did it this way. See attached pic.
