stream from pc to dreambox

p.s i dont just want to play .avi from my pc but also,
mkv's and x264 files!

The dreambox only plays mpeg video. Anything else needs to be transcoded using VLC before it's streamed to the dreambox. AVI's yes you can do that, MKVs, never heard anyone trying it before, I doubt it though.

well thats no problem because i can always convert the files to mpeg1 or 2,
but just wanna know how to stream from pc to dreambox???

You'll need to set up a mount on the dreambox to point to a shared folder on your PC.

Using the remote select MENU > SETUP > EXPERT SETUP > COMMUNICATION SETUP > MOUNTS

IP: <ip.address.of.pc>
Select CIFS form the pulldown menu on the right hand side
Dir: <name of shared folder on pc><press yellow for capital letters>
LocalDir: /hdd/movie
Options: rw,soft,udp,nolock
Extra: nolock,rsize=8192,wsize=8192
User: <account on pc>
Password: <password on account, if no password leave blank>
Select Automount
Select Mount

A message should appear saying CIFS mount OK!

Save settings and exit from all the menus.

Put the mpeg movies in the shared folder on the PC.

On the dreambox, press MENU > File Mode > harddisk

You should see the contents of the shared folder on your PC.

You can also use the web interface to set up a mount, I prefer to do it this way instead of using the remote. Just enter IP address of dreambox into your browser then go to the config section.

mate i just tried to do this via the web interface,
but with no luck,
seems to be a red cross 'X' under 'stat',
what me doing wrong?

i have enabled the file to share with the network and ensure my network connections has a tick with file sharing

Make sure the folder on your PC is shared and other users are allowed to alter the files.

Can you post a screenshot of your mount settings, Pc ip address and dreambox ip address.

Ive tried this several times and ive yet to get it to work, so im gonna crack it if you will help me, here is what i have done.

I have a folder in C:\ called movie (all lower case). I have ticked both boxes in the Network sharing and security from the properties of the folder.
I have follewed the above instructions. I typed My ip in google and got my ip address, this is what i have put into the Mount Manager, i then selected CIFS. I the Dir: i have just put movie. In the local diredtory line i have /hdd it will not allow me to edit it, if i press OK there is a folder called movie, if i then press the green button, the local dir line is blank.

I have put in the my username and password, select save and it says mount failed.

So i have no idea what to do next. Any help appreciated to get this sorted.
