    Newbie struggling

Hi just joined this site. You have really compiled a wealth of knowledge I have spent hours of enjoyable reading. I have accumilated nearly everything I need, image, keys, ram. I have just bought a 500c and am realy struggling to conect to it. I have altered the box ip to read 192.168.1.101. name server 0.0.0.0 gateway to read 192.168.1.100 port 80 DHCP is unticked I am using CuteFTP8 I have gone into my local area connection and changed the protocol made the IP address read 192.168.1.100 Altered this up and down several times I have set the FTP Host to 192.168.1.101 user root password dreambox
When I try to connect it comes up with an error message= The server is unreachable Please verify that the destination host name or IP address is correct and try again later. I have connected straight from pc to box using a crossover connecter I have actualy seen the folders on the box but was unable to access them I am struggling thanks in advance

Do a seach for FlashfXP. use that, make sure u can ping the dream box, if you are using win xp go to the command prompt, type telnet 192.168.1.101 as in the ip address of your dreambox use the ipaddress that you have assigned to your box., u should get a login, if not check your networking settings, I had problems on some switched and routers getting a connection to a dreambox. Do not set the gateway as the same address as the dreambox, I would suggest that you set your laptop to 192.168.1.2 subnet mask 255.255.255.0 dont use gateway leave it blank. on the dreambox ip address 192.168.1.3 subnet mask 255.255.255.0, reboot the dream box, ping your local computer, then see if you can pin the dreambox, the port you are ftping to is port 21, keep it simple to start with then you can add nameservers and gatways later for internet updates

try this plug in your dreambox to a tv first got to menu setting and then network find your ip addy and dhcp is ticked what i want you to do is untick dhcp
give your box an ip addy of 192.168.1.200
            netmask is 255.255.255.0
then got to the next bit
            nameserver 192.168.1.201
            gateway 192.168.1.201
            then come out of it
do you have flash fxp?if so open it up
go to your network setting on your computer
            find you modem
            rite click it
            properties
            tab down to internet protocol
high lite it then into properties
then tick : use the folowing ip address and fill in with
            192.168.1.199
ok it, it will then say that part of it is missing just ok it and it will fill in then ok again wait till it has finished and then check to see if your ip addy has changed to that 192.168.1.199
got to flash fxp open it if its not opened put in 192.168.1.200
            then user name is root
            and password is dreambox
            then ok it
a list should come up on the left hand side with all your stuff on your computer and on the other side you should see your dream box
mind once your finished is to go back and reset your modem
p.s your firewall may have to be disabled

If you are using a crossover cable make sure you set the Dreambox IP/Subnet to match your PC's. If they are on a different subnet they can't communicate.
On your PC, open a command prompt and type ipconfig /all
you should see your IP address and subnet (most probably 192.168.*.* and 255.255.255.0)
If your PC is 192.168.0.* make sure you set the Dreambox to match, only the last digits should be different. so PC is 192.168.0.1 you can set the Dreambox to be 192.168.0.2 (untick DHCP as well).
Open up your FTP program and connect to the address you just assigned to the Dreambox.
If you still can't communicate with the Dreambox, I suggest you check the cable and make sure it is a crossover cable and not a simple patch cable.
