Is it still worth buying a dreambox 500c?

Firstly, hello to you all, I have been viewing the forums with great interest over the past few months or so.

I am looking to purchase a dm 500c and wondered what your thoughts were on whether this would still be a good idea bearing in mind the rumours of vm looking to implement ways of making the boxes useless?

Thanks in advance for your help.

      Absolutely buy one.

Even if Virgin do change encryption then it's boxes like the Dreambox that will still be useful as they can be reprogrammed to handle the new encryption (as soon as someone works it out ofcourse).

Boxes such as the Starview, Eurovox, Kryptview etc, these will be instant door-stops.

        What do you mean mate?

Virgin Digital have always used Nagra1.

        They've never changed.

well if you get a few months tv from it then its easily paid for itself... But its always your own risk but i personally would not let it stop me. A linux based box like a dreambox has the best chance of being able to handle tv post encyption upgrade.... it will just be a matter of time before before somebody finds a way.....

I disagree here. In Ireland every box except the Kryptview has been essentially door-stopped.

I would recommend a Kryptview over a dreambox at moment as it has proven commercial support.

dreambox from what i have seen has more support than any other and is more futureproof with it being essentially a linux box and can be connected to the internet. as cable tv may end up going down the satellite route of sharing

I know I'll always perfer a Dreambox over the others due to it being an open box.

If the clone is fine, which immage do you suggest and which cam do I need load in the immage for Virgin?

a clone can be good dependant on where you buy from, however if you want peace of mind then get an original as they have a guarantee. every dreambox variation will work ok as long as its cable compatible like the 500, 600, 7020, 7025, 800,8000.

however if you see someone selling a brandnew "original" 500c then it will be a clone as these havent been made by dream mulitimedia for a few years now

Can you please let me know if a CC Cam 2.11 with a Nabilo image for Dreambox is it going to work for Virgin until they keep the Nagra1 ecryption?

Yep evocam is best imho. Just use the DK image on it and your all set to go.
