Telnet 500 dreambox

I have always used telnet to flash my dreambox 500 using the following command :cd /tmp && eraseall /dev/mtd/3 && cp backup.img /dev/mtd/3 && reboot
If I try the same in Vista Ultimate;the box just freezes and I have to use dreamup to flash. can anyone shed any light on this please....

The operating system shouldn't effect commands that are sent to the box. I can't explain that one or even think of a possible answer.
