Getting started with a DB500c and Virgin Media UK

    Hi guys,

I'm hoping someone can give me a semi step-by-step instructions on how to setup the box.My father-in-law bought the box on the internet and from what I've read I need to flush it with a new UK image but I can't seem to find any images anywhere.

Could someone talk me through flushing it in more detail though please, either posting some good links or a few bullet points.

I've managed to get hold of flashwizard 6.3 and tried flushing the firmware with the image from the main DreamBox site (v1.0.9) but that didn't work.

    TIA

If your PC has a com port (com1) buy a null modem cable (?2 from ebay). Connect the cable to your PC and to the dreambox and flash the image using Dreamup.

If you don't have a com port, you'll need to use ethernet. It's best that you connect the dreambox to your router if you have one, that's the easiest way to connect.

The threads at the top of the forum have the most common topics (sticky threads in red). And the download section has loads of guides.

          Hi Guys,

Right, I'm back from my holiday so I thought I'd give this another bash, basically I downloaded and installed the DK 1.1 image and installed it using FlashWizard which seems to have completed ok but is there anyway I can tell? The web interface still looks the same...

I'm doing it over Ethernet as it's easier to do that than using the null modem cable.

Do I need to use the "Bruteforce" option?

If the box boots up with the DK 1.1 logo then everything is ok.

Before you scan press the Blue button and chose the 'Set my Location' option, select your local provider from the list, the box will ask to reboot, let it reboot then go into the Service Scan menu and the box will be preconfigured for your area, then simply click 'Start Scan'.
