Newbie questions about DreamBox c

I keep searching and searching and finally found this forum but I am still a bit confused about what a dreambox can do.


I have charter cable in my area and currently pay for a medium grade package.

If I got a dreambox do I flash it to and image that works with my cable company and it will decode some chans I currently do not pay for?

I understand all the media center options and everything but im just wondering if it is capable of decoding things like VOD and PPV without a charge from the cable company?

Im more just curious on all of this but there doesnt seem to be any newbie guide to the dreambox anywhere that basically explains what it can do and whats required to make it do that.

Any help is appreciated.

You would be able to get all the cable channels free,but you need a few other files aswell in the box,everything u need to know. is in the RED STICKYS

Basically " I bought a dreambox now what"?

I get it out of the box and want to get cable chans.

Well you are in the right place,as we aim to help anyone get their equipment up and running in a jiffy.
Firstly i suggest you read the Dreambox Newbie section this will become clearer and you need to familiarise yourself with the jargon.
Everything is explained in detail how to get the box up and running,we will all be available to help with any questions you may have.

Thats exactly the kind of guide I was looking for.

The guide talks about sky (apparently a UK cable system).

Is there something different that must be done for US cable systems (charter)?
