      Dreambox Repairs.

Hi Generally the DM 500 will go up to about 18 volts without damage there is a voltage Regulator inside the box, I would suggest that you apply voltage to the unit 12 Volts, get a multimeter and find the voltage reg, looking from the top there are 3 legs on the bottom, the first leg to the left is input, middle leg is ground and right leg is output, See if there is a voltage in or out if there is 12 volts in then at least voltage is getting to it, if there is no voltage out the REG is blown you can get them at any electronic suppliers, Maplin if you are really stuck as they are way expensive on components, to be honest i would not send this away for repair, generally when you have excessive over voltage there can be other damage done, sometime you can repair one component and find that others fail pretty quickly. If you want to go at it, i can open one and put some pics together with what to look for.

Looks like you cooked it good, can you tak out the pcb and check for burned tracks from the power input socket, i presume you checked that there is actually power comming off from the PSU, can you check this on the power input socket, sometimes if u insert a different plug it spreads the socket making a bad connection with other plugs, you should be able to trace the power from the socket to the Voltage REG
